Matthew is a Director at Seven Hills

Matthew leads issues-led media campaigns for clients that span the creative, tech and investment sectors.

Since joining Seven Hills, Matthew has worked with organisations such as Innovate Finance, CogX, the University of Sheffield, Tech Nation, You & Mr Jones and Havas.

He advises the senior leadership team at Octopus Ventures, Europe’s leading early stage VC and the backers of Secret Escapes, Digital Shadows and Depop, highlighting their expertise in fintech, health tech and industry 4.0. This involves creating news stories and research into issues such as university spinouts, taboo tech and investment, ensuring the team has a distinct voice in European tech.

Throughout his time with the firm, Matthew has been a core part of the press team for One Young World, the global forum for young leaders, working on Summits in South Africa, Thailand, Canada, Colombia and the Netherlands.

He leads our work with Advertising Week Europe, which brings together 36,000 delegates for the continent’s largest celebration of the creative industries. The week is a major landmark on the marketing and business calendar, generating front-page stories across the globe and attracting major international broadcasters.

Matthew also works with quantum-technology pioneer M Squared, the two-time Queen’s Award for Enterprise winners that develop lasers and tools used by Nobel Prize-winning scientists. This involves profile raising for Dr. Graeme Malcolm OBE, M Squared’s founder, and spotlighting its breakthrough discoveries.

He works closely with David Richards, the founder and CEO of AIM-listed software business WANdisco, who is celebrated as a leading voice on the UK’s technology sector.

Pro-bono experience includes providing support for Professor Muhammad Yunus, the economist who invented microcredit, founded the Grameen Bank, and earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his work towards alleviating poverty.

His time at Seven Hills included a lengthy secondment in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he built the media profile for the firm’s US clients.

An experienced former journalist, Matthew was based in Beirut, Lebanon, where he reported for The Associated Press and was a desk editor at The Daily Star – one of the Middle East’s leading dailies. He read Philosophy at the University of Cambridge and holds an MA in Middle Eastern Politics from SOAS.
